World View Missions
We have been involved in many areas around the globe - - serving, evangelizing, planting works and following the leadership of God. Below is a list of the places and ministries where we have been involved in the past, the places where we are currently involved, the type of ministry and the future of each location.
Afghanistan – In 2003 several men from CHC traveled to Kabul, Afghanistan to evaluate the possibility of assisting the Network of International Christian Schools in establishing a school in the city of Kabul. There is currently a school bearing the name of Kabul International Academy, which has approximately 70 children in attendance. CHC raised $82,000 to help this effort and filled 2,000 boxes with school supplies to be distributed in the country to children in the public school system in Afghanistan.
Brazil – This ministry began in 2004 with medical and dental teams travelling up and down the Amazon River, providing services for many of the villages. Accompanying the medical and dental teams now are teams of construction crews, making improvements to local homes, evangelism teams that share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and teams of people that hold Children’s Camps with the villagers.
Cuba – Because of the sensitive nature of traveling to a Communist country, the information that can be shared about this ministry is very limited. We are actively working with a church in Cuba, assisting them in the renovation of the church, building mission churches and repairing homes of local believers. A shortage of pastors and the salvation of thousands in Cuba has led to a national shortage of pastors. The pastor in Cuba leads five churchs and is one of the most dedicated men that we have ever met. He has been arrested several times for his faith, and he still never lets anything deter him from the purpose that God has established for him.
Poland - When a missionary from the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention contacted CHC about teaching Small Group Principles in Poland, we were astounded. When we held a Small Group Conference in Wroclaw, Poland, we were informed that many of the IMB missionaries knew of Colonial Hills because of our involvement in small groups. Through the invitation of the IMB, we have held International Small Group Conferences in Poland for the past 3-4 years.
In 2006 we took a team of 9 people to Wroclaw. While there, we held a Men's and Women's Conference at the Second Baptist Church to teach Biblical priniciples for the home and family. We also were able to minister to the pastor of the church. Wojciech and Agnieszka Kowalewski have never owned their own apartment. They recently were given the opportunity to purchase an apartment; however, it needed a great deal of work. Our team helped the Kowalewski's in the completion of their new apartment. Many invaluable relationships have been built between CHC and the people in Wroclaw. God is doing great things in Poland, and we are just honored that God is letting us play a amall part of it all!
Jamaica – This ministry is the fastest growing ministry in CHC history. Ministries of The Deaf School, The Girls' Home, the Grace Community Center and renovation and construction of local homes in the squatters' villages are the many facets of our Jamaican partnership. In 2004 we built 3 homes and carried 75 people to the island to perform ministry. We also contributed over $80,000 for the construction of the Grace Community Center. This Community Center has several purposes - providing balanced meals for local school children that suffer from malnutrition, stocking a thrift store where families can purchase used clothing at a reasonable price, providing sewing machines where mothers can come to sew school uniforms for their children, and a discipleship center where young men and women can learn the Christ-centered way to conduct their lives.
In 2005 CHC took a team of 35 people back to Jamaica. In one week's time this team built 3 houses and ministered extensively in the village at the Community Center, The Deaf School and The Girls' Home. CHC also contributed the money to another sister church to build two additional houses in the same village.
We returned in the summer of 2006 with a team of 40. This team completed 3 houses and once again ministered in the Community Center (holding women's bible studies and kids' camps), The Deaf School and The Girls' Home. Many lives were changed this week - not only the lives of the people in Jamaica, but also the lives of many of our CHC mission team!
Athens, Greece - About a year ago CHC was asked by the International Mission Board of the SBC to pray about adopting the city of Athens, Greece. After much prayer we took the challenge! In October of 2006 we took a team of 14 to this great city! Our first undertaking was to visit the city and gather information that will enable us to assist our missionaries in forming a strategy for Athens. While also held a Small Group Training Conference while there. Our trip was a great success; we learned a so much about the Greek people, their culture and their beliefs. We are looking forward to returning to Athens during 2007!
